Indie what ?… Yes, there are still some movies out there, where there are no world-endings, UFO invasions, super-heroes, sparkling vampires, bombs, loud music and tons of SFX. Oh, typing this, I already feel a headache coming.
You know the kind of movie, made with sweat, blood and tears ? A projet that takes ages, where you put all your heart (and money) in and only expect that someone will watch it, maybe like it and spread the word so more people would like it… And so on.
Here are four excellent movies from young directors about to be released this year. Each one of them is unique and special. Keep en eye on them, as most of them have screenings at this year’s Festival de Cannes :
DEAD BEFORE DAWN
Casper Galloway and his friends accidentally unleash a curse that causes people to kill themselves and turn into Zombie Demons, aka Zemons. Armed with homemade weapons, his team races through the night, killing Zemons to find a way to reverse the curse.
First Canadian entire 3D movie ever, directed by a sort of Wonderwoman : April Mullen. She has been seen as a screaming girl in Cronenberg’s « History of Violence » and ended up directing the scripts written by the talented Tim Doiron. This is already their third movie together.
Original and innovative, DBD is not a remake of « Texas Chainsaw Massacre » with a bunch of plastic legs flying around and a lot of ketchup. Something never seen before : half-horror, half-comedy but entire 3D ! The awesome Christoper Lloyd himself (« Back to the Future ») is back on screen as an occult shop owner.
